How to apply pine bark mulch professionally
A durable surface begins with accurate quantity planning, weed-free soil, clear edging and even depth.
Measure the area
Calculate square metres and choose 5–8 cm for a new bed or a smaller top-up for an existing surface.
Remove weeds
Remove perennial roots before mulching.
Prepare and water
Loosen the surface, improve the soil and water deeply. Place drip lines below mulch.
Create edging
Separate bark from lawn and paving with a stable edge.
Consider fabric
Useful under stable shrub zones, less practical in frequently replanted beds.
Spread evenly
Distribute in small piles and level without heavy compaction.
Keep stems clear
Leave 5–10 cm around trunks and stems.
Maintain
Check the depth annually and top up thin areas.
