Applying pine bark in spring: when and how to start

Applying pine bark in spring: when and how to start

Spring is an ideal time to mulch because beds can be cleaned before weeds and summer heat become dominant.

Choose the right moment

Work when the soil is no longer frozen or waterlogged. Complete pruning and bed cleaning first so that plant positions are clearly visible.

Prepare the bed

Remove perennial weeds, shape the edges and water the soil. If landscape fabric is used, provide generous openings around plants and keep drainage paths clear.

Spread evenly

Distribute bark loosely, level it with a rake and leave stems uncovered. Keep the mulch slightly below paving and lawn edges to reduce spill.

Summary

Careful spring preparation makes the mulch layer easier to maintain throughout the season.
